South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Unit has secured a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Sharing Heritage1 grant of £10,000 for their exciting project, ‘Routeways and Connections, on the Kingswear and Brixham peninsula’.
Through the project South Devon AONB will be working with a range of partners including voluntary organisations and landowners to actively connect communities in this area to their natural heritage.
The project will include improving awareness of pathways and interpretation, working with the community to map, observe and appreciate the natural heritage, using creative approaches to help communities and individuals to connect more deeply with their natural environment and promote opportunities for skills development.
The project will feed into the South Devon Green Infrastructure Development Plan which aims to ensure a more coordinated approach to landscape and habitat management. There will be an opportunity for up to 12 volunteers to learn new skills in heritage, community engagement, and landscape and habitat management
Nerys Watts, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund in the South West said: “Sharing Heritage is a wonderful opportunity for communities to delve into their local heritage and we are delighted to be able to offer this grant so that “Routeways and Connections on the Brixham and Kingswear Peninsula” can embark on a real journey of discovery. Heritage means such different things to different people, and HLF’s funding offers a wealth of opportunities for groups to explore and celebrate what’s important to them in their area.”
